These Terms describe the working relationship between you and Knapp's Electric. We've kept them straightforward. If you have any questions about how we work or what to expect, just ask — we'd rather answer them upfront than have you wonder.
By engaging our services, you agree to the terms below.
What we do
Knapp's Electric is a licensed electrical contractor based in Elginburg, Ontario. We provide:
- Standby generator sales, installation, and service (Generac)
- Generator maintenance and warranty repairs
- Residential, commercial, and industrial electrical work
- ESA permits and inspections coordination
We're licensed (ECRA/ESA #7012923), insured, and an authorized dealer for Generac (#11133084).
Estimates and quotes
We provide written estimates for your project. Estimates are valid for 30 days unless otherwise stated.
For generator projects, we offer four service paths:
- Path 1 — Turnkey Installation: Free initial assessment.
- Path 2 — Design + Supply: Paid on-site consultation.
- Path 3A — Pre-Purchase Consultation: Paid on-site consultation.
- Path 3B — Post-Purchase Design: Paid on-site consultation.
Consultation fees for Paths 2, 3A, and 3B are disclosed when scheduling.
If site conditions or scope change between estimate and project completion, we'll let you know and update the estimate before doing any additional work.
Payment
Deposits may be required for generator installations and larger projects. Amounts will be specified in your written proposal. If you cancel after equipment has been ordered, deposits may be non-refundable to the extent of supplier restocking fees.
Payment is due on completion of work unless we've agreed otherwise in writing.
Late invoices (over 30 days past due) may be charged interest at 2% per month. We'd rather not — please reach out if you need to discuss a payment plan.
We accept e-transfer, cheque, and credit card.
Our warranty
Our workmanship is warrantied for one year from completion. If we made a mistake, we'll fix it at no cost to you.
Equipment warranties come from the manufacturer:
- Generac standby generators: typically 5 years
- Champion standby generators: typically 3 years
We handle warranty claims with manufacturers on your behalf during the manufacturer warranty period.
What's not covered: Things outside our control — damage from pests, lightning, neglect, modifications by others, or normal wear items (batteries, filters, spark plugs). These are typically covered by your homeowner's insurance or require routine replacement.
To make a warranty claim, email or text us a description of the issue. We'll respond within 5 business days to schedule an assessment.
What we need from you
To complete your project, we need:
- Safe access to your property and the work area
- Working utilities as required for the job
- Permission to access electrical panels and other relevant infrastructure
- Disclosure of any known property conditions that affect the work (hazardous materials, etc.)
- Timely decisions on your part for finish choices, scheduling, and approvals
If the site isn't ready when we arrive (and the issue is on your end), we may need to charge for the trip and rescheduling.
Maintenance
For generators we install, we recommend maintenance based on operating hours and elapsed time. We do not offer subscription plans — when service is appropriate, we contact you, send our current rate card for approval, and book the work.
We service the generators we install, and offer annual and priority service plans to our installation customers.
Schedule reality
We try to stick to our schedules, but real-world factors can delay projects: weather, supplier delays, permit timing, utility coordination, emergency calls. We'll keep you informed if anything affects your timeline.
Estimated completion dates are good-faith estimates, not guarantees, unless we've explicitly committed to a specific date in writing.
Liability
We carry commercial general liability insurance and workers' compensation as required by Ontario law.
Like all contractors, our financial liability for any claim is limited to the amount you've paid us for the specific work that's the subject of the claim. We carry this protection so we can offer competitive pricing — unlimited liability would substantially increase what every project costs.
We're not responsible for:
- Damage caused by acts of God (lightning, severe weather, etc.)
- Loss of business, food spoilage from power loss, or other indirect damages
- Issues with equipment manufactured by others (covered by manufacturer warranty)
- Damage caused by modifications or work performed after we finish
None of this limits our responsibility for personal injury or death caused by our negligence, which Canadian law doesn't allow us to limit.
If something goes wrong
We want to know. If you have a concern, tell us in writing (email or text) within 14 days of the work or the issue arising. We'll respond within 5 business days and work with you in good faith to make it right. Most issues are resolved by a direct conversation.
If we can't resolve it directly, we can agree on mediation. If that doesn't work, either of us can pursue legal remedies through the courts of Ontario.
Your customer portal
If you become a customer, you may receive access to our Generator Hub portal at hub.knappselectric.ca. Your portal gives you 24/7 access to your service history, equipment details, photos, and documents.
The portal is for your personal use as a Knapp's customer. The software itself remains our property; your access doesn't grant ownership rights.
We aim to keep the portal available around the clock but can't guarantee uninterrupted service.
Website use
The information on knappselectric.ca is for general guidance. Pricing examples (where shown) aren't binding quotes. Service descriptions are general — your specific project may differ.
Our website's AI chat assistant provides general guidance, not professional electrical advice. For specific situations, contact us directly.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms occasionally to reflect changes in how we operate. Updates will be posted on this page.
