When you contact us, request a quote, or become a customer, we collect:

• Details about your electrical or generator project
• Photos or documents you choose to share with us
• Service history, equipment details, and warranty information (for ongoing customers)
• Records of our conversations (phone, email, text)
• Basic website usage data (which pages you visit, browser type) when you use our websites

We collect this information either because you give it to us directly or because it's necessary to complete the work you've asked us to do.

How we use it

We use your information to:

• Respond to your inquiries and prepare quotes
• Schedule and complete your project
• Maintain accurate records of work performed
• Provide ongoing service and warranty support
• Send appointment confirmations, service reminders, and project updates
• Comply with our legal and tax obligations

That's it. We don't use your information for any other purpose.

Who we work with

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run our business — companies that help us send emails, send text messages, host our customer portal, and process secure payments. We choose these providers carefully and require them to protect your information.

• Coordinate with subcontractors working on your project (gas fitters, etc.)
• Register equipment warranty with manufacturers (Generac, Champion)
• Comply with regulatory requirements (ESA, TSSA, permits)

We will never sell your information, share it with marketers, or use it for any purpose unrelated to your service relationship with us.

How long we keep your information

We keep customer records for as long as we have a service relationship with you, plus the time required by Canadian tax and regulatory law (typically 7 years for financial records).

If you contacted us but didn't become a customer, we delete your inquiry within one year.

You can ask us to delete your information at any time. We will, except where we're legally required to keep certain records.

How we protect your information

We take security seriously. Your information is:

• Encrypted when transmitted (HTTPS on all our websites)
• Stored in encrypted databases
• Accessible only to authorized personnel
• Protected by industry-standard authentication

Our customer portal at hub.knappselectric.ca uses unique URLs and 6-digit PINs to keep your information accessible to you but private from everyone else.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to:

• See what information we have about you
• Correct information that's wrong or incomplete
• Delete your information (where we're legally able to)
• Stop sending you communications

A note about AI

We use AI tools to help us run our business more efficiently — for example, organizing incoming inquiries by topic and urgency, or powering the chat assistant on our website. A real person (Robb) reviews every customer interaction and makes every important decision. AI helps us respond faster and stay organized; it does not replace human judgment in serving you.

Cookies

Our website uses basic cookies to help us understand how visitors use the site and improve performance. We do not use advertising cookies. You can adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies if you prefer.
